What is insolvency?

Insolvency means the inability to pay debts or having more liabilities than assets of value. Please note that insolvency is not another word for bankruptcy. Bankruptcy is a court process, insolvency is a financial position a person may be in. If you’re worried about the prospect of insolvency, our insolvency advice specialists will help you find the best solution.

Key questions to test for insolvency.
You will need to do is answer a series of questions about your household, income and outgoings, such as:-

  • Do you need advice about a debt you dispute?
  • Have you received any letters, forms or papers from a court about any of your debts?
  • Have you had any letters or visits from bailiffs, High Court Enforcement Officers or sheriff officers?
  • Have you been threatened with repossession of your home, car or any of your belongings?
  • Have you been threatened with disconnection by a gas, electricity or telephone provider?
  • Have you received a statutory demand or a bankruptcy petition?
  • Are you employed / self employed?
